Wake Up and Pray

Oct 18, 2026  •  Rev. Isaac Smith

How can you build a stronger prayer life? In Colossians 4: 2, Paul calls Christians to devote themselves to prayer, staying watchful and thankful. But what does it really mean to be devoted to prayer, and how can we move beyond a list of requests to a deeper relationship with God?

In this message, we explore what the Bible teaches about prayer, spiritual attentiveness, and the power of gratitude. Being watchful in prayer doesn't mean living in fear or anxiety. It means staying aware of what God is doing and learning to recognize His presence in everyday life.

Think of a steady, sure-footed horse that notices what's happening around it without spooking at every little thing. That's a picture of the kind of attentiveness we're called to develop in our prayer lives.

We also consider how beginning our prayers with thanksgiving can change our perspective. Rather than rushing straight to what we need, we can remember what God has already done and let gratitude shape the way we approach our circumstances and our requests.

If you want to grow in prayer, develop a more consistent prayer routine, and deepen your relationship with God, this message offers a biblical starting point.
